She Says,

I’m Adventure traveller Medhavi Davda an inquisitive spirit who refused to give up her drive to explore life. Even though I liked learning physics and math in school, it was never enough. I had no idea that adding athletics to my extracurricular activities would mould me for an interesting life ahead. My foray into travel began in high school when I travelled to badminton competitions across Gujarat and represented my state in the National Badminton Championships. I also added a diploma in Katthak, an Indian classical dance style, to my resume.

My naive goal of a career in sports was dashed as I moved on to become a Software Engineer and work for prominent MNCs such as TCS, Infosys, and IBM. Intrigued by how machines worked, I became engrossed in coding and building software applications while maintaining a decent work-life balance. I trained in Latin dance genres such as Salsa, Swing, Cha Cha Cha, Tango, Bachata, and Kizomba. I rekindled my love for badminton and was the corporate champion of Pune for 5 years.

Before venturing out to other destinations, I travelled extensively in my own country (India). My notion of travel is to immerse oneself in nature, live like a native, or go hiking and diving to enjoy our planet’s raw beauty.

My first Himalayan trip (Brighu Lake, Himachal Pradesh) at the age of 16 lingered in my mind, and I began to feel a strong magnetic draw toward the Himalayas to go on an adventure expedition. Trekking over the snow-covered mountains seemed like a new life as I inhaled clean air at altitudes where oxygen levels were low enough to struggle for survival. At an age when reaching the summit of a mountain seemed like an accomplishment, the beauty of nature had already begun to take precedence in my mind. On my unsuccessful treks, I began to experience the might of nature alongside the beauty. Trekking transformed my outlook on life, and I conquered myself with each peak I climbed (and even those I didn’t):

  • Roopkund Trek, Uttarakhand, India – 4800m
  • Chadar Trek – Frozen River Trek, Ladakh, India – 4200m
  • Kashmir Great Lakes Trek, Kashmir, India – 4200m
  • Markha Valley Trek, Ladakh, India – 5200m
  • Stok Kangri Summit, Ladakh, India – 6110m
  • Mount Rinjani, Lombok, Indonesia – 3726m (2nd highest active volcano in Indonesia)
  • Auden’s Col & Mayali Pass Expedition, Uttarakhand, India – 5490m (most dangerous pass in the Garhwal Himalayas)
  • Kalindi Khal Expedition, Uttarakhand, India – 6000m
  • Garuda Peak, Uttarakhand, India – a technical peak at 6000m
  • Everest Base Camp & Kala Patthar Trek, Nepal – 5555m
  • Great Himalayan National Park, Himachal Pradesh, India – 4300m
  • Mera Peak Summit, Nepal – 6461m
  • Kilimanjaro Summit, Tanzania, Africa – 5895m (highest peak in Africa, seven summits)
  • Annapurna Base Camp, Nepal – 4130m

The desire to discover more led me to a whole new world buried under the ocean’s surface. Adventure traveller Medhavi Davda became a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver and continued to explore the water depths around several islands:

In addition to mountains and oceans, my travels took me to the skies. Paragliding, which at first appeared to be a terrifying adventure, now keeps me inspired to take off from greater heights. One of the finest things that have occurred to me has been relearning physics through travels. I’m now pursuing certification as a Club Pilot as a step up from my current certifications:

  • Elementary Pilot Course – Kamshet, Maharashtra, India (2-3 mins solo flights from 45 meters)
  • Intermediate Pilot Course – Kamshet, Maharashtra, India (10-15 mins solo flights from 250 meters)

For 1.5 years, my clichéd dream of living in the mountains came true when I chose to take a vacation from the unhealthy working schedule I had to follow for one of the IT projects. They say that everything occurs for a reason! My resignation didn’t seem as liberated as giving up everything but what could fit in my car. This was my first step toward a simple existence, which would allow me to appreciate the freedom that comes with it. To make a career from my hobbies, I relocated to Himachal Pradesh and resided in isolated Himalayan regions (Bir, Spiti, Kinnaur, and Tirthan Valley).

Nature, on the other hand, had other ideas for me! Nature tempted me to see life living in all its aspects among all the purity and tranquillity. As I spent time engaging with the locals, I became engrossed in learning and adapting to their way of life – simply the basics of living in harmony with nature for a healthy mind-body soul. This insightful and humbling event satisfied my curiosity about life existing in more ways than we have been taught. With a sad heart and a larger mind, I left the Himalayas and relocated to Mumbai to work as a Senior Product Manager – Scuba Diving for an adventure travel company to extend some once-in-a-lifetime experiences to others.

ADVENTURE TRAVEL exposed me to the heights of mountains and the depths of seas, which helped me develop a strong connection with nature and profound care for the environment. Through RESPONSIBLE TRAVEL, I actively encourage lessening the negative influence on nature and human life, and I continue to do my part to be environmentally friendly in my daily life. SOLO TRAVEL instilled in me a strong feeling of responsibility and awareness, transforming me into a self-aware human being. Travelling allows me to learn about and incorporate natural methods of living into my healthy lifestyle. By EXPERIENCING LIFE in different areas of the world, I am continually learning to extend my thoughts on life!
